142 years ago today, Yellowstone became America’s first national park - an idea that would spread worldwide. Old Faithful and the majority of the world’s geysers are preserved here. A mountain wild land, home to grizzly bears, wolves, and herds of bison and elk, the park is the core of one of the last, nearly intact, natural ecosystems in the Earth’s temperate zone.Photo: Jeremy Stevens (www.sharetheexperience.org)

If I had my way, everything would be open 24 hours so that I would never have to be alone with my thoughts. Flights would be free if you could just prove you needed to get away. Each small town would have to keep a few jobs free for drifters who washed up there. Taxi drivers would always give good life advice. Barmen, too. Strangers wouldn’t stare and cats would never run away from you on the street. Religious people would actually live generously and rich people would all have good taste. Madness wouldn’t exist and people would always explain when they leave. My bed would never be cold, summer would never end and telling the truth about how you feel would be the easiest thing in the world.
